FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does it work?

The first thing to do would be to schedule a consultation. This will allow me to customize making the locs to your preferences, and answer any questions you have. Next would be to purchase your locs. Based on what we discuss, you will know exactly what to purchase. If you are getting your locs installed by me select local pickup when checking out. There is a fee to have locs installed which is due on the day of your loc install appointment. The fee starts at $600-$700 for temporary & permanent and goes up depending on how many bundles you’re getting installed. Purchasing your locs serves as a deposit so no deposit is needed when booking an install. If appointment is rescheduled then a deposit will be required to rebook.

How soon can I get an appointment after the consultation?

Based on availability you can get an install date 2 1/2 - 3 weeks after you purchase your locs. If you wait to purchase your locs then your earliest install date will still be 2 1/2- 3 weeks after the date you purchase your locs not your consultation date. If you would like your hair done sooner a rush fee will be applied.

Can I get locs over locs?

Yes, you can! For permanent locs you will need to comb out the ends of your locs so that the loc bundles can be attached. I will need to know the exact number of locs you have and see pictures of your locs next to commonly used items like pencils or sharpie markers for sizing references. For temporary it depends the styles you want and how long you’ve been growing your locs. Sometimes freshly formed locs can become damaged or flattened if they are styled and braided down before they are able to form. On the other hand, locs that are fully formed can be bulky, or stiff making it harder to camouflage and deliver the look you may want.

What’s the difference between permanent locs and temporary locs?

Permanent locs are locs that you will keep in instead of removing. Removal requires cutting the locs out or hours and hours of detangling to keep some length of your natural hair. When installing permanent locs I create an instant loc with your natural hair and attach the loc extension to it using a small crochet hook tool to tangle. fuse, and mesh the loc extension together with the natural loc. Keep in mind long hair can and may be cut during this process.

As for temporary locs I braid your hair, attach a loc extension to it, and then wrap hair around the braid to hide it. The locs are both removable and reusable and should be worn up to 3 months max. You should book a touch up within 6-8 weeks to make sure your hair isn’t breaking off or that the locs aren’t pulling on your hair. Human hair ages, tangles, and mesh together so long term wear (6 months) is tempting and has been done but it is really difficult to remove and hair health may decline.

Both Temporary and Permanent locs can be washed, styled, and colored. When coloring temporary locs keep in mind that your hair is inside of the loc. If the color is not washed out properly, long term damage will happen to natural hair once locs are removed.

What if I want to purchase locs only?

If you are purchasing locs only (without installation), you can purchase what you want and leave the details along with your contact number in the notes section. If you prefer to have a consultation, book the consult first then purchase your locs. Please keep in mind that shipping will be done within 4-6 weeks after purchase of locs without installation. If time permits I may be able to ship them out sooner. I apologize that you have to wait so long, however; the locs are handmade by one person so preparation time is needed.

How will I pay for my appointment?

After you purchase your locs, I will inform you of my availability and schedule the appointment for you. The loc installation fee will be due on the day of your appointment. You can pay by credit or debit card processing, through an invoice, by Zelle, and lastly through most payment apps.

Can I get locs on relaxed/permed hair?

Yes, I can install temporary locs on relaxed hair. For permanent loc extensions you will need to have at least 2-3 inches of new growth or virgin hair for me to install the locs onto. I install the locs extensions mostly on your new growth so that as your natural locs grow out it matches the loc extensions seamlessly. Also when you think about transitioning hair from relaxed to natural, the relaxed hair tends to be more fragile and sheds, which is not secure enough to keep your locs extensions long term.

Do temporary locs and permanent locs have different prices?

The price to purchase the locs is the same, the price to install the locs is different. Length, color, amount of locs, and sizes of locs determines price.

How many locs do I need?

Depends on the fullness you desire, thickness, and density of your hair, as well as your head size. Fine or thin hair clients will not be able to get as many as clients with thick full hair. I instant loc your hair, so the loc extensions must match the loc I create with your hair, to keep it seamless as your hair grows out. During the consultation please describe your hair as accurate as possible so I can make the locs closest to the density of your hair.

With Temporary Locs you may be able to get more locs in because the density of your hair does not need to match the density of the locs.

With Permanent Locs the density must match so that as the locs grow out they match your natural hair. During the consultation we will go over this based on your hair goals and the condition of your hair.

Can I bring extra guest/child to my appointment?

I share a salon space with another stylist and would like everyone to have the best experience possible. As a result, no children or extra guests are allowed.

Can I rush my order or get an early install date?

Normally the availability shown is what I have available. However please reach out to see if anything has changed as cancellations can happen. If time permits, there is a $400 fee to rush delivery. I cannot rush colored locs. Orders will be shipped within 2 weeks or less. For sooner loc install appointments the fee is $400. Please understand that rush orders takes time away from other responsibilities, which is why it’s applied.

How long does my hair need to be?

Your hair needs to be at least 3 to 4 inches long for both permanent and temporary installs. This is the perfect starting length. Shorter lengths may allow the locs to slide out or not last as long. Longer hair is acceptable but will be cut during permanent loc installation.

What is the difference between Twisted Locs and Knotted locs?

Twisted locs are my take on the Goddess Loc look. These locs resemble Lisa Bonet's locs and have been seen on Meagan Good and Eva Pigford. Knotted locs are my take on faux loc extensions. They resemble the look of newly formed natural locs. They have a looser texture and will become more compact into a mature loc as they age.

How do prepare for my appointment?

I would love to wash & treat your hair prior to your install, however because of the time and preparation of the service, I prefer for you to come with clean and detangled hair. Blow drying not required. You can wash your hair, detangle it and put it a few braids or twist to dry. Please keep your hair free of styling products as it causes flakes.
